PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The state Department of Health Tuesday recommended the closure of Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick to swimming due to high bacteria counts. Officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend reopening when the area is safe for swimming. Department officials have said in recent days that abundant rainfall is to blame for washing bacteria into waterways. For up-to-date information about swimming at Rhode Island beaches, go to the state Health Department or for recorded information, call 222-2751. |
