PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Sarunn Phan, a member of the Oriental Rascals street gang, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison this morning on weapons charges. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary M. Lisi questioned Phan's lifestyle and chided him for appearing for sentencing on a gun charge for the second time in two years. ``Do you know what the installment plan is Mr. Phan?'' Lisi asked. ``No ma'am,'' Phan answered. ``Your living it,'' she said. ``Two years here. Three years there. If you want to spend the rest of your life in prison, you're doing a really good job of that. It's up to you now to do a lot of growing up.'' Lisi ordered Phan, 22, of Providence, to serve 24 months in prison for the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. She also ordered him to serve an additional six months in prison for violating the terms of his probation on a prior gun conviction. In 2007, Phan was sent to prison for 24 months on a gun charge. Shortly after his release, agents from Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms arrested him for having a .45 caliber handgun in his home. Upon completion of his prison term, Phan will be on supervised release for the next 5 1/2 years. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. For having a gun you're not supposed to have but don't even use, two and a half years in prison.
For taking a human life with a car, one year.
Only in Rhode Island.
