In national news, Friday's front page reports on the deaths of "King of Pop" Michael Jackson and former Charlie's Angels' star Farrah Fawcett.

Locally, Nicholas Gianquitti was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the second-degree murder of his Cranston neighbor James Pagano, a Cranston firefighter. He also received a mandatory concurrent life sentence for using a firearm in committing the crime.

The Senate has confirmed Paul Suttell as Rhode Island's next chief justice.
