By Benjamin Gedan Speidel, a 105-year-old Providence jeweler, filed for bankruptcy late Friday. The case will be heard on July 16 by Judge Michael A. Silverstein in Superior Court, Providence. Speidel has had several owners in its long history. The most recent was Frederick N. Levinger, who spent three decades at The Colibiri Group, another major Rhode Island jewelry manufacturer. Levinger bought Speidel in 2007. In that purchase, he also acquired the Providence Watch Hospital, a watch sales and repair business with two retail stores. In all, the two companies had 47 employees. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published.
