EAST GREENWICH, R.I. -- Michael Zajac, principal at the Archie R. Cole Middle School for nearly two years, is leaving to assume the principalship of Scituate Middle School. The School Committee is scheduled to consider a replacement for him at its June 16 meeting, where it will also accept Zajac's resignation. Supt. Charles Meyers, who himself is leaving this summer, is expected to recommend Cole's assistant principal, Alexis Meyer, as Zajac's replacement. She formerly taught at the school. "That's an outstanding recommendation if he's going to recommend her," said School Committee Chairwoman Jean Ann Guliano. Zajac's departure comes as the existing middle school is about to be torn down and replaced. Demolition is scheduled to start as soon as classes end. Zajac was 39 years old and had been assistant principal at the middle school for five years when he was tapped to succeed Joseph Militello, who had been at the post for 25 years. Before that, Zajac had been a math teacher and, subsequently, an assistant principal at the Cyril K. Brennan Middle School in Attleboro. |
