PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The city will provide more than 800 summer jobs for youths through federal money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, according to a press release from Mayor David N. Cicilline's office on Monday. Cicilline will discuss the jobs initiative at a news conference on Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. at the Neutaconkanut Recreation Center, 675 Plainfield St. The program will be geared towards the city's neediest youth, according to the mayor's office, and is among the goals outlined in Cicilline's Operation Opportunity, an 18-month plan to expand job opportunities and revive the city's flagging economy. The summer jobs program will be coordinated by Providence/Cranston Workforce Solutions. According to the mayor's office, dozens of city children, parents and community leaders have been invited to Tuesday's announcement. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. What is a "neediest youth"? Any kid needing a job is needy.

Dear Jerika
I see your comment re the projo.com blog post on the summer jobs program. This post is saying there will be a news conference to announce details. People have been invited to the press event, not to apply for the jobs (I checked the press release).
Hope this helps.

Hello,
I really would like a summer job. I am fourteen years old and i live in providence. There was an opputtunity for me to have a summer job, but i was 'over qualified' because i haven't been expelled or suspended from school. Are there any oppurtunties for a fourteen year old to get a job? I really don't care where it is in providence, it can be in a super market, small restaurant, whatever. Thanks
