Celona to be released on parole in July

CRANSTON - Former state Sen. John Celona, in the Adult Correctional Institutions for corruption, will be released on parole, probably on July 22, the chairman of the parole board said Tuesday.

Parole Board Chairman Kenneth Walker said the projected date of release depends on a final review of Celona's paperwork and Celona remaining on good behavior while at the ACI. While on parole, Celona will have to wear an electronic monitoring device, Walker said.

Celona, sentenced to federal and state prison time after pleading no contest to charges that he sold his office for political favors, has been in federal or state prison since March 2007.

His first parole request, last September, was denied, Walker said, because the board did not feel he had served enough time given the severity of his crimes.

The severity of his crimes??? Amazing!

The biggest slugs in the General Assembly are still walking around scot free. One wants to be a judge, the other wants to be a lobbyist, and the third was sent a letter that he was no longer under investigation.

Great job Mr. Corrente. Good Bye and Good Riddance.
