PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Fort Adams State Park in Newport joins the list of areas closed to swimming because of high bacteria counts, the state Department of Health said Wednesday. Two beaches in Warwick and one in Bristol have been closed since Tuesday. They are Bristol Town Beach, Goddard Memorial State Park and Gorton Pond Beach. Health officials will continue to monitor the water quality and recommend reopening when the areas are safe for swimming. Up-to-date information about swimming at Rhode Island beaches is available on the Health Department Web site. Recorded information about state beaches is available by calling (401) 222-2751. |
