NEW BEDFORD -- A 40-year-old worker at the Northern Wind seafood processing plant was crushed to death after being caught in an industrial ice-making machine on Monday.

The victim, Joseph Teixeira of New Bedford, was a "quality person and a respected worker," said the company's owner and CEO, Ken Melanson, who said the company's thoughts and prayers are with his family.

While his death is believed to be accidental, a spokesman from the Bristol District Attorney's office said that an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
