A Plymouth, Mass.-based green energy company is considering building a facility that manufactures wind turbines in Rhode Island.

Aeronautica Wind Power has twice visited the Quonset Business Park, in North Kingstown, to look at a 40,000-square-foot space, according to Steven J. King, managing director of the Quonset Development Corporation.

"This fits in with our mission to create an alternative energy hub in Quonset," King said.

Aeronautica has also looked at two other undisclosed sites in Rhode Island among 30 places in the Northeast and the Midwest, according to Brian D. Kuhn, the company's director of marketing and sales.

Aeronautica has the only contract in North America to manufacture turbines designed by Norwin, a Danish company. The plant would assemble 300 turbines a year and would employ 85 to 110 workers.

Kuhn said Aeronautica has narrowed the possible sites for its plant down to a shortlist of 10, which includes at least one site in Rhode Island. He expects the company to make a decision within the next 30 to 60 days.
