CHARLESTOWN, R.I. -- National History Day in Rhode Island is nominating Thalia Wood, a teacher at Winman Junior High School, for the PBS Teacher of Merit Award. The award will be announced on June 18 at the Kenneth E. Behring National History Day Contest, which will be held at the University of Maryland, College Park. Wood, 50, of Charlestown, was also named Rhode Island History Day Teacher of Merit. The award was presented during the 2009 National History Day in Rhode Island Contest held at Providence College on April 25. An educator for more than 19 years in the Warwick School Department, Wood currently serves as the social studies department chair at Winman Junior High School. She is National Board Certified in Early Adolescent Social Studies and is a PhD candidate in education at the University of Rhode Island/Rhode Island College. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil.
