PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The police are looking for a pizza deliveryman they said hit two pedestrians and sped away in downtown Providence Friday night.

The accident happened just before 10:30 p.m. in front of Lupo's on Washington Street. A man and a woman who appeared to be in their late twenties or early thirties lay on the pavement, unable to move.

Both were taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. Their conditions were unknown.

Matthew Small, 24, of Pawtucket, told the police he had just crossed Washington Street heading to Energy, a nightclub on Union Street, when he heard a loud bump. He saw a maroon pizza delivery car -- with a cartop sign identifying the company -- making a sharp turn from Washington Street onto Union Street. Small said the car climbed onto the sidewalk at the corner of Washington and Union streets.

Police officers on the scene said the driver of a gray Nissan with Massachusetts plates who was headed west on Washington Street reported that a car that appeared to match the description of the pizza delivery car had cut him off, and then two people hit his windshield. Officers said it appeared that the pizza delivery car hit the pedestrians, who were thrown onto the gray Nissan.

I hope he loses his job and license. Can't people go out for the night without worrying about getting hit by people who don't know how to drive?
