Update: Trump spares Miss California's crown

Billionaire Donald Trump, who owns the Miss Universe organization, has spared the title of Carrie Prejean, the controversial Miss California whose topless photos and statement against gay marriage have caused a stir.

Prejean's troubles took on a Rhode Island twist Monday with word that Miss Rhode Island USA, Alysha Castonguay, had also posed topless. But because Castonguay had cleared her photos with the pageant before seeking the state crown, she is not in danger of losing her title.

Prejean said during a press conference Tuesday morning that the recently released topless photos of her were inadvertently taken two years ago on a ``windy'' day while she was posing on a cliff for a surfing magazine. The photos should never have been released, she said.

Trump described the photos as ``fine ... we're in the 21st century.''

Prejean, whose answer to a question about gay marriage thrust her into a firestorm of controversy, said her grandfather had fought with General Patton during World War II and often spoke of defending rights of freedom.

``I exercised my freedom of speech,'' she said tearfully, "... and I was punished for it.''

Prejean and Trump embraced. So did Prejean and Shanna Moakler, the onetime Barrington resident and former Miss USA who is executive director of the Miss California pageant.

What happened to "FREEDOM OF SPEECH"?????

I wonder if she had worded her answer in a different way if the photo's would be an issue? Um?? No, I hardly doubt it.

I believe people are attacking her because of her family values and believes and the way that she answered her question not because of some photo's.

I don't understand the pageant controversy over photos....the pageant paid for her breast implants and paraded her on stage in a bikini. Why do that if they don't want people to look at her breasts. Who cares whether the boobs are on stage or in a photo?

Attention! The Donald is going to proclaim his decision. All heed his proclamation and wisdom!

So, she told a gay man (Perez Hilton) that she personally did not believe in gay marriage and it's pretty much off with her head? Get real, it's not about the photos or breasts. This woman is being assailed because she won't toe the p.c. line. I think she's stronger than the gutless cowards screaming for her crown who don't realize that she only echos what the MAJORITY of Americans feel.

Can someone please tell me what a gay man is doing judging a woman's beauty contest?
That is such a stupid idea. Get someone who can truly appreciate what they are looking at, because a gay man certainly cannot.
And before you pc clowns get all riled up, it would be just as stupid as having me judge a gay man's contest. I have no clue what they are looking for.
So just stop the nonsense.

Donald Trump turned the entire pageant into a joke. Yes, the comment that the Bible clutching Miss California said wasn’t the most brilliant, but that’s entirely another subject and different article. The issue is did she break her contract? But the foolish Trump who tends not to think with what little he has in his head chose to think with something else. It’s ok for a beauty queen to do drugs, photograph nude, get body enhancements and what have you but do you all remember back in the late 90’s when Ms. Venezuela won Ms. Universe and Trump came out with all his “wisdom” in a press conference to say Ms. Alicia Machado is too fat. He also went on Larry King talk show and said “she is an eating machine.” At that point I was over these pageants and over “The Trump” and all his Bull. Rosie had it right on the View with her comments and would love to see her go at it again. A message to all the homosexuals who support these Donald Trump Pageants, you all should boycott them. If it wasn’t for all of you there wouldn’t be a show. Then the only people left watching these pageants would be little straight boys alone in there rooms saving pictures as screen savers when mommy and daddy go to bed.

Is she controversial because she has an opinion that differs from the Old Media, but is consistent with 67% of the country, and 52% of her own state?

How come the radical leftists are not called controversial when they support partial birth abortion?
