| Update: Providence police say crash suspect 'on the run' »
SOMERSET, Mass. -- A two-year-old girl was severely injured Monday afternoon after she ran toward a riding lawnmower and her foot slipped beneath it, the police said. The toddler, whom the police would not identify, underwent emergency surgery at Hasbro Children's Hospital and is being hospitalized. The police said the lawnmower operator swerved to avoid the toddler, but the girl's foot slipped under the mower. The lawnmower operator, whom the police also would not identify, tied a tourniquet a few inches below the child's knee to stop the bleeding before an emergency crew arrived. The lawnmower operator's wife was baby-sitting for the child at the time, the police said. |
