Save The Bay reports that a massive sea star "kill" in North Kingstown is probably the result of recent heavy rains. The environmental organization has made a video in which John Torgan, the group's "Bay Keeper," explains the probable cause: that starfish are salt-water creatures that cannot withstand fresh water. The recent heavy rains, Torgan said, likely diluted the salt water in certain sections of the Bay, making the water uninhabitable for the starfish. |
