Taunton man shot to death on Route 24

TAUNTON, MA -- Police are investigating the slaying of a Taunton man who was shot as he rode in a car on Route 24 early Sunday morning.

Troy Pina, 29, was in the passenger seat of a car that was traveling south on Route 24 between Taunton and Fall River when, at around 1:45 a.m., he was shot at by someone in another vehicle, Bristol County District Atty. C. Samuel Sutter said in a prepared statement.

Pina was taken to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m.

Citing the investigation, police declined to provide more details.

State police asked anyone who was traveling on Route 24 between Taunton and Fall River between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Sunday to contact state police at 508-993-8373 or the district attorney's office at 508-997-0711.
