WASHINGTON -- Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse is on a tour of Southwest Asia during the Memorial Day congressonal recess, visiting war-torn Iraq and Afghanistan, and neighboring Pakistan, among other nations in the troubled region. Whitehouse spokeswoman Alex Swartsel issued this statement on Tuesday about the travels of Rhode Island Democrat Whitehouse, who is a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee: "Senator Whitehouse has been overseas over the Memorial Day weekend, meeting with American troops and government officials in the Middle East. He was in Afghanistan today, and in recent days visited Iraq and Pakistan."
