As of Wednesday Fitzpatrick "is no longer employed with the state,'' said Christy Healey, human resources administrator for the state Office of Health and Human Services. She said he had been on paid leave for the previous six weeks. Citing state policy, Healey said that she could not provide further details about the circumstances of his dismissal from the job that paid $50,401 a year. Kevin Aucoin, acting director of the Training School, declined to comment on Fitzpatrick's termination. Last June, The Journal reported that the Department of Children, Youth and Families, which oversees the Training School, had asked the state police to determine whether any laws were broken in relation to thousands of dollars of overtime payments at the Training School. Healey also declined to comment on that investigation. In April 2008, Fitzpatrick stepped down after six years as president of Local 314 of Council 94, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The local represents 149 juvenile protection workers at the Training School.
