Today is the fourth annual Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, and events are taking place in East Providence and Cranston. Several Head Start agencies across the state are conducting a "Magic Moment" Thursday morning in which pupils read "Swimmy," a book by Leo Lionni. Children at the Meadowcrest Early Childhood Center in East Providence are to hold an interactive activity based on the book. At Cranston High School West activities will begin at 6 p.m. Open to the public, the event is to feature poetry, dance, music and other artistic expressions. The goal for the event is to inspire youth to teach their peers and others that youth with mental health needs can thrive. |
