Jeffrey R. Seemann, dean of the College of Environment and Life Sciences at the University of Rhode Island, has accepted a position at Texas A&M University. He plans to leave URI on July 1. In an e-mail Monday to students and colleagues, Seemann said he is to be named vice president for research at Texas A&M. "This is a great opportunity for me that I just couldn't say 'no' to," Seemann said, noting the high levels of research spending at Texas A&M. "I have had a wonderful eight years at the University of Rhode Island. Together we have accomplished great things, and I hope that you all feel that I will have left the college, university and state better than I found it." Seemann has been one of the most vocal boosters of the state's life sciences industry. He is the co-chairman of the Science and Technology Advisory Council, which advises policymakers about ways to exploit academic research for economic development. |
