The Providence-based rock band Deer Tick has been making a name for themselves nationwide - a mention as one of the breakout stars of SXSW in Rolling Stone, a slot at George Wein's Folk Festival 50 in Newport this summer, and more. But Brian Williams? The NBC Brian Williams? That Brian Williams? Sure enough, Williams's multimedia efforts, which have included his blog The Daily Nightly since 2005, now include the Internet music-interview series known as Britunes ("I didn't name this thing," Williams avers), and Deer Tick were his first guest, right up there with Bono, Mavis Staples and Yo Yo Ma. The interview touches on the band's emerging fame, the genesis of the song "Dirty Dishes" and more. The contrast between the sleepy band and the iTunes-fixated Williams is - well, it's not exactly Ed Sullivan interviewing The Rolling Stones, but it's up there. |
