CRANSTON, R.I. --- A brief but tense moment ended without incident just after midnight Tuesday when police were called to the home of a distraught Iraqi war veteran who threw a pistol out a window shortly after several cruisers arrived on scene, the police said. Police Maj. Ronald T. Blackmar said officers surrounded the house on Mapleton Avenue and contacted the man by phone. The incident ended peacefully within minutes, Blackmar said, with the man not being arrested but referred to mental health counseling. Blackmar would not release the name of the man. |
