PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Middle and high school students will receive graphing calculators as part of the first round of grants from Brown University's Fund for Education of the Children of Providence. The fund was inspired in part by the report of the university's Steering Committee on Slavery and Justice, an initiative to aid local schools in the form of a $10 million endowment managed by the university's corporation. A grant of $118,000 will provide 12,000 graphing calcualtors to students in grades 6 through 12, beginning next fall. Three $10,000 grants will also be given to Vartan Gregorian Elementary School, Roger Williams Middle School and Hope High School to support their currriculum.
