PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Bayer Healthcare LLC is mailing samples of aspirin in crystal form to residents, the state's Department of Human Services and the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency said Friday.

The 33,561 6-by-10-inch envelopes are not labeled, raising concerns that recipients may confuse the mailing with a toxic threat. The aspirin may show as white powder as the envelopes travel though the postal system.

The mailing began Wednesday and will continue through May 29.

The sample Bayer Aspirin Crystals are described as a "non-hazardous" white powder.

You'd have to be an idiot to put anything in your mouth that you receive, unsolicited, through the mail. Really!!!
