A state grand jury Monday handed up indictments against six men who allegedly were involved in a racketeering enterprise based in West Warwick that, according to the state police, took bets, committed extortion and peddled drugs.

Donald St. Germain, 54, of 47 Phenix Ave., West Warwick; Joseph Montuori, 44, of 101 Carlton St., Cranston; Michael Sherman, 35, of 4 Grove St., West Warwick; Michael Lillie, 33, of 128 Setian Lane, West Warwick; Jeremy Lavoie, 36, of 46 Crawford St., West Warwick; and Richard Crowley, 31, of 127 Park View Boulevard, Cranston, are charged.

They are scheduled to be arraigned May 13 in Providence County Superior Court.

The state police on Feb. 3 rounded up 30 suspects and announced that they had disrupted an organized crime ring that had been uncovered when investigators learned that the ring had sought the sanction of a mobster to attack someone who owed money.

Excepting Crowley, five of the accused are charged with conspiracy and extortion for allegedly threatening someone with injury in or near Coventry on Jan. 19, in an attempt to get money allegedly owed to them.

St. Germain and Montuori also are charged with conspiracy to sell drugs. Individually, St. Germain also is charged with involvement in an organized crime business, bookmaking, eight counts of delivering controlled substances (Hydrocodone and Oxycodone) to an undercover trooper, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

In addition, Montuori is charged with involvement in an organized crime business and bookmaking. And Sherman is charged with involvement in an organized crime business, bookmaking, four counts of delivering a controlled substance (Hydrocodone and marijuana) to an undercover trooper, possession of a .25 caliber pistol while delivering a controlled substance, possession of that pistol without a license, and the illegal sale of the pistol.

Crowley is charged with conspiracy to sell drugs and possession of a controlled substance.
