The state medical board has disciplined two physicians for multiple lapses in running their practices that endangered patients' health. Dr. James Urban, an East Greenwich internist, had his license suspended for a year -- with the suspension stayed for six months -- after investigators found a wealth of problems at his practice, Harbour Medical, including expired medications in the sample supply closet and failure to correct safety problems with his x-ray machine. Dr. Donya Powers, a Pawtucket family practitioner, was placed on probation for two years because she went away for three weeks without arranging for coverage, failed to respond to a patient's request for medical records, and allowed her malpractice insurance to lapse. "With both these, we're sending a strong message that a doctor's practice is an extension of the doctor," said Dr. Robert S. Crausman, chief administrative officer of the state Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline. "These things are important." CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil.
