But Whitehouse and Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Il.), the assistant Senate majority leader, said they were "disappointed'' that the Justice Department let one of the lawyers under investigation participate in the review of the probe. Their comments came as various news organizations were reporting that that Justice Department investigation will draw harsh conclusions about the lawyers in question but not recommend their prosecution. The two Democrats had asked the investigative unit -- the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility -- for an update on the probe in March. On Monday Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich updated the senators in a letter. |
