Construction has begun for a new "green" bath house with its own wind turbine at Salty Brine State Beach, but the state Department of Environmental Management warns that means fewer parking spaces and no showers for beach goers this summer. The 37-year-old bath house at the beach in Narragansett will get all of its energy for lighting, fans and hot water from the small wind turbine and solar hot water heaters on the roof. The building also will incorporate improved insulation, energy efficient lighting fixtures and low flow plumbing fixtures. The new bath house will provide space for bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, a life guard station on the upper level and an observation deck and boardwalk for the public. Total cost will be $1.8 million, with construction slated to be completed by Memorial Day 2010. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil.
