The National Weather Service has issued an alert that localized flooding is possible later this afternoon as heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms move across the region. According to the weather service, a line of heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms has already approached the New York City area and Long Island, accompanied by very heavy rain and thunderstorms. "This line is expected to enter Rhode Island... eastern Massachusetts and nearby southern New Hampshire between 4 and 6 p.m." Friday, the agency said. "Late day commuters should be alert for the potential of localized street and urban flooding late this afternoon and early evening," the warning stated.
