PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Residency in Rhode Island won't affect whether any of the 871 applicants get one of the 89 jobs at the state Department of Transportation under the federal economic stimulus program, the agency said Wednesday. "Everybody's getting an equal opportunity," said DOT spokesman Charles St. Martin. The same applies to all DOT jobs, he said. DOT Director Michael P. Lewis says the extra help, mainly in engineering-related jobs, is needed to help manage the 53 construction projects the DOT is building with $138 million under the program. |
