By Michael P. McKinney PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- The School Committee on Friday sued the mayor and City Council, under a Caruolo action, asking the court to order that the school budget be increased by up to $5.63-million in the fiscal year that runs through June 30. That would cover the $5.13-million school budget deficit and an anticipated $500,000 for additional expenses in prosecuting the action, according to the complaint filed in Providence County Superior Court. The School Committee and Schools Supt. Hans W. Dellith are plaintiffs. Mayor James E. Doyle, the nine city councilors and finance director Ronald Wunschel are defendants. The complaint asks the court to increase by the $5.63 million "or in an amount sufficient to operate the schools for the 2008-2009 school year." Last week, the School Committee announced it had voted 7-0 in closed session to pursue a Caruolo action. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. I wonder when the teachers will wake up to the real world and realize that the party is over. I guess they will have to go back to school - not to teach but to learn to read; evidently they have no idea what is going on in the real world regarding job losses, foreclosures, loss of health benefits,etc.... seniors cannot even keep up to their medication payments and they expect these very seniors, as an example, to pay for their healthcare, medications, etc.... when in reality the teachers make the most money and can afford to pay for these things. I thought teachers were supposed to make a difference without putting themselves in a class of their own. Its too bad they feel this way.
