PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- Police are investigating reports that a Pawtucket mother left her infant and toddler alone for most of the day Friday.

The children were taken to Memorial Hospital, police and neighbors said.

Police were interviewing neighbors, the children's parents and child protective investigators from the Department of Children, Youth and Families.

"The investigation is still going on," Maj. Arthur Martins said just before 4 p.m.
