JAMESTOWN, R.I. -- The Jamestown police are asking the state Division of Motor Vehicles to investigate whether former Gov. Bruce Sundlun should be allowed to drive. This is the second time in two years that a police department contacted the DMV about Sundlun's ability to drive. The North Kingstown police contacted the DMV in 2007 after trying to persuade Sundlun to relinquish his license, after several minor accidents and complaints about his driving. But Sundlun met the approval of a state medical board and later passed a road test, allowing him to keep his license. However, since then, the 89-year-old Sundlun, who lives in Jamestown, has been cited by the police from several different departments for speeding, getting into minor accidents, driving on a sidewalk, and driving through stop signs, including just two weeks ago . When told about the Jamestown police's request on Tuesday, Sundlun angrily defended his driving abilities. "I'm getting sick and tired of you people calling up and talking about things that never happened," Sundlun shouted over the phone. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. LEAVE OUR KING ALONE!

Wow. Do not go gentle into that good night, Governor!
Seriously, this is sad. I remember when we had to take my dad's car keys away as dementia began to take over his mind. It's a tough step, but necessary to protect the public when drivers lose their acuity and reflexes due to age.

There comes a time when it is "time" ! We hesitated to have my Grandfathers license taken years ago and he was in a car accident and killed himself, thank God no one else was hurt ! Mr. Sundlun, with all due respect, "it's time" !

Yeah and he also has a pilots license. So let's give the veteran a break and get the hell out of his way.

Okay, this is sad. I'm elderly myself, but how's he going to feel if he injures someone?
Aren't there any family members who can shred his license and take away his keys, and provide a driver?
