NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) -- A North Attleboro man convicted of fatally stabbing his best friend and trying to kill the man's girlfriend has been sentenced to up to 30 years in prison. Cory Hood was convicted last month of voluntary manslaughter for killing 25-year-old Michael Liss, and armed assault with intent to murder for trying to kill 20-year-old Terra Marvitz in Liss' home in September 2006. The 30-year-old Hood testified he was high on crack cocaine and acted in self-defense. The Sun Chronicle of Attleboro reports that Hood was sentenced on Thursday to 15 to 20 years on for the manslaughter charge, followed by 8 to 10 years for the armed assault with intent to murder charge. Judge Richard Moses called the case "the most brutal" he'd seen in his time on the bench. ___ Information from: The Sun Chronicle, http://www.thesunchronicle.com |
