APC by Schneider Electric has laid off 30 more Rhode Island employees in its third round of job cuts since late last year. The company, formerly known as American Power Conversion, has about 1,100 employees in Rhode Island and 2,300 in the U.S.

Sarah E. Dereniuk, communications specialist for APC, said the most recent job cuts were part of a national reduction that trimmed 80 jobs from the company's U.S. workforce. She said the 30 Rhode Island employees being laid off work at APC's corporate office in West Kingston.

Dereniuk blamed the deteriorating economy for the layoffs, citing "the lack of clear visibility as to the length and depth of the economic crisis."

Last month, APC announced it was closing its manufacturing plant in West Warwick, eliminating 75 jobs and transferring 25 more to West Kingston. Dereniuk said workers were notified last month, but the West Warwick plant will not close until July.

In December, APC cut between 50 and 100 jobs from its American workforce. Dereniuk said she didn't know how many of those jobs were in Rhode Island.

This company should be sued by Rhode Island to get the tax breaks back they were given to employ Rhode Islanders. Obviously, this French company feels no obligation to honor the deals APC made. I have bought my last APC UPS!
