PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- The Pawtucket Police arrested a 16-year-old girl and two men from Massachusetts Thursday shortly after noon, when they are alleged to have robbed the Navigant Credit Union. The 16-year-old girl walked into the credit union at the corner of Dexter Street and Goff Avenue and handed a teller a note demanding money, according to Police Major Arthur Martins. She did not display a weapon, or wear anything that obscured her face, he said. After the clerk handed over money, the girl left the bank and jumped into a maroon Toyota Camry with two men in it and they took off. A witness provided the license plate number to the police who saw the car five minutes later on Central Avenue and gave a short pursuit. The driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a parked car on Central Avenue near Cottage Street, Martins said. The driver fled the car and the police arrested the teenage girl and the other man, Martins said. The police found the driver about an hour later hiding in the basement of a house on Cottage St. Martins said. The 16-year-old who lives in Randolph, Mass., the driver of the car, Steven Humphrey, of 23, of Hyde Park, and Satyr Mondesir, 32, of Boston, were each charged with first degree robbery, Martins said. The girl is being held at Rhode Island Training School, Martins said. The two men were expected to be arraigned in Sixth District Court today, he said. Martins said that the men had a history of violent crimes in Massachusetts. He said the police continued to investigate the robbery and the relationship of the teenager to the men. |
