By AMANDA MILKOVITS PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The police are investigating whether a double shooting in the Hartford housing projects Monday night is connected to an ongoing feud with the Manton Avenue housing projects. Sopheap Vong, 26, and David Vasquez, 20, who both live on Bodell Street, were "hanging around" outside when two gunmen in dark clothing fired at them, said police Maj. Thomas Oates III. The gunmen ran off on Eastwood Avenue. Vasquez is still at Rhode Island Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition, Oates said. Vong has been released after being treated for gunshot injuries. Oates said the detectives are trying to determine who the shooters were. This is the second shooting within 24 hours to involve the two housing projects. On Sunday night, someone standing by a trash bin outside 57 Salmon St., in Manton, fired at the 51 Salmon St. apartments, according to a police report. The bullets shot through a window and walls, but missed the residents. Police found shell casings next to the trash bin. This story was originally published at 7:14 a.m. and updated at 7:52 a.m. |
