A Woonsocket-based manufacturer of health and safety products for children said Friday it plans to lay off about 17 of its 170 employees over the next several months. Summer Infant Inc. also plans to sell its new corporate headquarters to Faith Realty, a company owned by Jason Macari, chairman and chief executive officer of Summer Infant, for $4.05 million. Summer Infant will lease the building from Faith Realty for seven years. The layoffs and changes in warehousing operations are expected to save $2 million annually, the company said. Summer Infant designs and sells more than 80 products including nursery audio/video monitors, safety gates, bath products, bed rails and bedding. Among its major customers are Babies R Us, Target, Kmart and Wal-Mart. |
