WARWICK -- The Warwick man charged after a hit and run accident in September remained free on $5,000 bail with surety this morning when he appeared before Judge Stephen Nugent in Kent County Superior Court.

Christopher Genereux, 40, of 213 George St., got out of his car and ran after he collided head-on with a motorcycle driven by Robert Laurent, 49, of West Warwick, shortly before 12:30 a.m. on September 17, 2008, the police said. Genereux, eastbound, had been attempting a turn onto a Route 4 entrance ramp, according to the police.

The impact sent Laurent flying 30 feet, according to the police, who said he was wearing a helmet. Passersby stopped to help him until a rescue truck arrived, the police said, but Genereux jumped out of the 2001 Chrysler and fled. The car is registered to his mother, Jane Genereux, of South Kingstown, the police said.

Genereux came to the police station a few days later and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury, a felony. At that time, he was unable to post bail that was set at $5,000 with surety. He was held overnight at the Adult Correctional Institutions and posted the bail the following day. He remains free on that bail.

A hearing to determind Genereux's lawyer has been set for March 20 in Kent County Superior Court.
