PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The State Police have been called in to investigate a break-in in the office of House Majority Leader Gordon D. Fox.

Employees reported the apparent burglary when they arrived at Fox's third-floor State House office on Monday morning.

The State Police are now working with the Capitol Police to investigate the incident, which took place between Friday night and Monday morning, according to State Police Lt. Col. Steven G. O'Donnell.

"We are presently completing interviews and beyond that I have no other comment," he said.

Film crews were in the State House over the weekend, although it's unclear whether authorities believe there is a connection.

In a brief interview this afternoon, Fox acknowledged the State Police involvement.

"There were things strewn about; there was definitely evidence of a break-in," Fox said. "As far as I can tell, nothing was stolen."
