Update: Laffey won't run for governor, Chafee might

Former Cranston Mayor Stephen P. Laffey told WPRO's Dan Yorke today that he will not run for governor next year.

Laffey, who ran for U.S. Senate in 2006, losing a primary to Lincoln Chafee, was considered to be one of the most high-profile potential candidates in next year's gubernatorial race.

Meanwhile, Chafee said today that he is "very, very seriously" considering a run for governor as an independent. Chafee, a visiting fellow at Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies, said he will probably make a decision by the end of the semester.

Laffey: hard nosed, smart, realist, capable.
Chafee: court jester, slow, inherited monied elite, incapable.
Caprio: smart, too inside, owes the system, won't have the courage to do right.
Trillo: says the back door is the way in...ooh! Did he mean that?
Everone else: Union kissing fools who love to spend "other people's money".
Voters in RI: Hope everyone else will give them money...fools! Look at the results!
Watch the socialists do for the US what they have managed to do for RI.

Chafee may not be perfect, but yow, look at the other candidates.

I took my own poll among a few friends last night. Chafee won by a landslide.

Lincoln Chafee was a wonderful Mayor of Warwick for the period that he filled that position. He is, however, naive to a point that is troubling for a grown man. He would never be able to stand up to the hard-left hacks (Paiva-Weed, etc.) who are running the General Assembly and hence would be a weak and ineffective Governor. He's a nice person though.

If it's not Lincoln, then it's just another "Log!"

Barbara More to follow.......

Please run, Linc, you are the only intelligent, competent politician in this state. The alternatives: Cicilini? Lynch? Caprio? Murphy? Paiva-Weed?
Good luck, Lincoln, and please run!

I listened to the Laffey interview on Dan Yorke. In short, what he said was RIers are just too ignorant and not ready to accept the type of changes needed to straighten out this state. Between the illegals and nutbags running the General Assembly, we are not going to enact any type of change. The same stupid RIers voted in the very same nutbags to run the General Assembly.

This is why Laffey won't run for Governor.

RIers aren't willing to do what's necessary for real change as long as the entitlement table is ready for their feast.

As a liberal Rhode Islander, nothing would make me more pleased and hopeful of our future thang having Lincoln Chafee as our next governor. I am most proud of the only man in the US Senate to stand up against the Iraq invasion and the only qualified candidate for us.

Ralph said:

What a shame. I suppose this means that we can look forward to having the "missing Linc" run for governor!

I guess the old saying is true. We get the governments we deserve, both at the state and federal levels.

I own a home in RI and work in Boston. If that spineless airhead gets elected governor, I will sell my house and move myself, my family and my money elsewhere. Please, please, please tell me Rhode Islanders have more brains than that. Please!! Um, Senator Chafee, you represent RI, but where do your kids go to school? (Private school in DC) When was the last visit to RI? (not very recent!)

Roland said:

Fed Up, no, RIers don't have more brains than that to elect Chafee and that's the exact reason why Laffey won't run.

RIers aren't willing to accept what they need to do and the mindset that wants to elect a liberal dingbat proves it.

Independence is what we need ! Go Linc, go !

talk to taxpayers in Cranston about Mr. Laffy ... He raised taxes, "talked" about dealing with cuts, and then spent 2 years diverting attention & beating up crossing gaurds (which saved the City peanuts). The truth is, Mr. Laffy was all talk, and no action - another spoiled kid not getting his way.
