Twitter: projo | RSS | Email alerts Due to colder temperatures and thousands of people losing their jobs, the Salvation Army is receiving an increased number of calls from families asking for assistance from its Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund. To keep pace with the need, the Salvation Army is asking residents and businesses for continued donations. "In combination with the colder temperatures, thousands of jobs in the state have been lost in the last few months so it's not surprising that we're experiencing an increase in the number of inquiries by those in need of energy assistance," said Major Doug Burr of the Salvation Army. "We appeal to the giving spirit of all our neighbors in the state and ask that you consider enclosing a donation in any amount with the yellow envelope found in your utility bill or donate online at rigoodneighbor.org. Burr said that many of the calls the Salvation army is receiving are from people who have never asked for assistance before. The Rhode Island Good Neighbor Energy Fund is a safety net for families who do not qualify for federal and state assistance programs. The fund's campaign relies on the generosity of individuals, families and corporations for support. The Salvation Army distributes contributions based on specific household income and family member guidelines. |
