A former associate dean at Roger Williams University was charged with stalking for sending derogatory and inflammatory letters to faculty and staff at the Bristol university, according to the Rhode Island State Police. John Dawson, 66, of 115 Peeptoad Rd. in Scituate, was arraigned on the charge Thursday at state police headquarters in Scituate, and was released on $10,000 personal recognizance to appear in Providence Superior Court March 21, according to Capt. David Neill of the state police. Dawson worked at the university from 1973 to 2000, then was terminated from the job, Neill said. His arrest was the culmination of a two-year investigation into over 130 letters and post cards Dawson sent to faculty and staff members at Roger Williams University. The letters and postcard were derogatory and inflamatory in nature and some were sent with another faculty member's name on it, Neill said. The first known letter Dawson wrote was in July of 2001. He had continued sending the letters and post cards until recently, Neill said. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Vicious comments, personal attacks and profanity won't be published.
