BOSTON, Mass. -- A Rhode Island man was indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury Monday for allegedly scheming to collect more than $12,000 in unemployment benefits while continuing to work. Jason Orville Lee, age 34, of Providence, was charged with unemployment fraud and felony larceny. Grant Woodman, spokesman for Attorney General Martha Coakley, declined to give Lee's street address. According to the indictment, Lee applied for state unemployment benefits in June 2007 while separated from his employer, and began receiving benefits from June 2007 through January 2008. During part of this time, Lee was allegedly working full-time for two different companies and failed to disclose his employment status to the state. He allegedly reported each week that he was not working. Authorities allege Lee collected fraudulent benefits totaling $12,740 while working and collecting. Lee is scheduled to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on April 7. |
