CRANSTON, r.i. U.S. Senator Jack Reed will discuss Monday morning what he says is the need for passage of the Fiscal 2009 Consolidated Appropriations Act and what passage of the bill will mean for Rhode Island.
Reed said the legislation makes investments in education, health care, and energy efficiency. It also includes over $32 million in federal funding for projects in Rhode Island.
The senator said in a statement that Republicans delayed passage of the bill over the weekend and the Senate is scheduled to resume consideration of the legislation later Monday.
He said that failure to pass the bill could result in a government shutdown or force all federal agencies to keep spending at the fiscal 2008 level.
Reed will discuss the legislation at 10:30 a.m. at his Cranston office.
