PROVIDENCE -- Soon, the oldest state institution of higher learning will sport a new logo, as Rhode Island College unveils a new tag line, part of a marketing campaign. For many years, the 155-year-old college has used an image of a flame within an oval, with the college name, its founding year, 1854, and two anchors on all printed materials. The words "Inspire, Reach, Connect" printed in gray frame the abbreviation used for the college, RIC, which appears in burgundy. No money was spent on the initiative, said RIC spokeswoman Jane Fusco. Instead, more than 150 ideas were solicited from students, alumni and college employees, and an 8-member committee of college staff developed the tag line. "The college needed a great tag line and marketing plan, but we had no designated funds," said RIC President Nancy Carriuolo. "So I turned to the college's talented campus community and friends of the college." Fusco chairs the committee, which includes David Blanchette, interim dean of the School of Management; Frank Casale, an alumnus and a senior vice president for Sovereign Bank; Margaret Dooley, and alumna and RIC's major gifts officer; Steven Maurano, associate commissioner of Higher Education for external affairs; Stephen Ramocki, marketing professor; Karen Rubino, RIC's Web director; and Holly Shadoian, admissions director. The committee plans to develop a marketing campaign that incorporates the tag line "to further enhance the image of the college," Fusco said. |
