Kevin Spacey, star of the films The Usual Suspects and American Beauty and artistic director of London's Old Vic Theatre, will receive the National Pell Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Arts at the 13th annuall Pell Awards Gala June 20. In making the announcement, Curt Columbus, artistic director of the Trinity Repertory Company, said, "Kevin Spacey is a natural choice to receive this award because of his commitment to the live theater, the medium of film and good works around the globe. He is a great director, actor, artistic director and humanitarian. We are honored to have him as a part of this year's important celebration.'' Now in their second decade, the Pell Awards were established to honor Sen. Claiborne Pell, who died Jan. 1, and recognize artistic excellence in Rhode Island and nationally. The Pell Awards Gala will be held June 20 in Newport at Pelican Ledge, the late senator's home. |
