PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Jennifer Gianquitti, whose husband stands accused of murdering their next door neighbor, told police she saw a pistol in her husband's belt as he went to answer the door, Cranston Detective Lt. Dennis Neri testified Tuesday afternoon. Neri interviewed Jennifer Gianquitti following the fatal shooting. But Gianquitti, he said, failed to include that information in her written statement. When asked by Assistant Attorney General Wiliam Ferland if he had tried to contact Jennifer Gianquitti, Neri said, "Yes." Superior Court Judge Robert A. Krause sustained a defense objection preventing Neri from explaining what attempts had been made. Gianquitti's initial interview was not audiotaped, Neri said. "We were unfamiliar with the new system," he said. "I was under the impression that it recorded audio and video nonstop." The defense rested its case at 12:35 p.m. Closing arguments are scheduled when the court returns from its lunch recess.
