Nearly $90 million in federal stimulus money is coming to Rhode Island to be spent on environmental projects including drinking water and sewer construction, home weatherization and modernizing heating and air conditioning systems. U.S. Sen. Jack Reed announced the figures at a news conference early Monday afternoon at the Save the Bay Center in Providence. Anthony B. Simeone, executive director of the state's Clean Water Finance Agency, said he expects to start spending the water and sewer money locally by late summer. The figures are a bit higher than estimates cited by state officials several weeks ago. Reed also pointed to another $26 million for additional green projects that is included in the recently passed Fiscal Year 2009 Consolidated Appropriations bill.
