John Celona will be transferred from federal prison to the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston by April 1, a spokeswoman for the R.I. Department of Corrections said today. The department was notified of the pending transfer, but it has no further information on the timing of Celona's arrival, according to the spokeswoman, Ann Fortin. According to the federal prison inmate locator on Friday afternoon, Celon was scheduled to be released from FCI Loretto in western Pennsylvania Friday. The change in custody will allow Celona to serve the remainder of his four-year term for obtaining money under false pretenses over $500, Fortin said. Celona has served some of that time already while in federal custody. He had been sent back to Rhode Island for a time to serve in the Wyatt Detention Facility in Central Falls. Celona could be released as soon as Sept. 9, 2010, Fortin said. Also, prison rules could allow him to be released sooner that, based on good behavior.
